Estate Planning

One way to tell your loved ones that you care for them is by giving them as easy an experience as possible in settling your estate. Though we are not attorneys and do not draft the estate documents, our team is here to help make sure that your assets go to the right people.

A stack of estate planning legal textbooks rest on a desk.

What is Estate Planning?

Estate planning certainly includes things like wills and trusts, but it goes deeper. Planning tells you why to use or not use a trust. It has a game plan for your surviving children and their care. It considers who can make financial and healthcare decisions if you're still alive but mentally unfit to make decisions.

Estate planning, as you may expect, involves a plan to transfer your wealth to the next generations. Sometimes this means having to determine which beneficiaries should get which assets and how you can protect them legally to receive what's theirs.

Why should I care?

Anyone who's sat in a probate court could attest to what happens when assets don't transfer efficiently. Mix in some step-children and maybe an ex-spouse and you've got another Netflix drama.

Without a good plan for your estate, your survivors could be left with unnecessary frustration and may even be unintentionally disinherited. Not to mention, if your estate is large enough, they may have to use the only liquid assets available; this might have them selling a piece of the family business to cover your estate tax.
